This year marks the 13th time the National Moth Week event is being held. Initially limited to America, it has now become global. In 2024, during the period from July 20-28, moth enthusiasts will join forces and make observations in groups or individually.

The goal of the events is to draw attention to the diversity and importance of moths.

Note about izeltlabuak.hu (arthropods)

The izeltlabuak.hu website primarily focuses on arthropods found in Hungary. This entry also deals with Hungarian fauna.

Participation in the event​

The event organizers do not expect submission of recorded observation data, but request that participants register on the form published on their website, also available in Hungarian, which you can fill out by clicking the 'Register' buttons, or you can access it directly here. You can register a public event where you can expect others to join, or a private one where only you participate. After submitting the form, once the processing time has elapsed, your event will appear on the map published on the organizers' website. After the event, you can request a digital certificate from the organizers that certifies your participation.

Your registration also comes with additional benefits if you mark this on izeltlabuak.hu.

Connecting your izeltlabuak.hu user account​

You can indicate on your izeltlabuak.hu user account that you are participating in the National Moth Week 2024 event. You can do this in your profile settings on the dedicated subpage, or when recording a new observation. If you are already participating in a registered public event, provide the data for that event.

For the connection, provide your surname, first name, and location coordinates from your event data, as you recorded them on the organizers' website during your registration. Once the organizers process the registration and it appears on their map, we will also approve your connection.

If the connection is successful and you record moths on the izeltlabuak.hu site during the event period, we will reward your participation!

  • you will receive a unique badge on your profile page that proves your participation

  • similar to last year, this year we have also created a summary page where we summarize moth observations recorded and observed during the event period. This year, we will highlight your observations.

Summary​

  • Registration on the organizers' website: required, can be done on their website.

  • Required for registration: filling out a form available in Hungarian with the details of the observation event.

  • Registration on izeltlabuak.hu: required, can be done in profile settings on the edit events subpage, or when recording a new observation, or editing an existing one.

  • Required for registration: providing the name and location data specified on the organizers' website for connecting registrations.

  • izeltlabuak.hu registration acceptance time: once the event organizers process the application and it appears on their map.

  • Data forwarding to organizers: none
