izeltlabuak.hu's contribution to the European Moth Nights 2024 event
About the European Moth Nights event
In 2024, we once again joined the European Moth Nights event series that appeals to moth enthusiasts. This event provided a unique opportunity for those interested in moths to share their passion and observe these mysterious creatures together.

The izeltlabuak.hu website primarily focuses on arthropods found in Hungary. This entry also deals with Hungarian fauna.
Our contribution
izeltlabuak.hu's data recording functions and huge user base provided an ideal opportunity to participate in the event. Our website provides an overview of macrolepidoptera and micro moths. The number of macrolepidoptera observations recorded on the izeltlabuak.hu interface at the time of writing this article approaches 264 thousand, while micro moth recordings reach 49 thousand. Users show particularly great interest. This year, all macro moth imago observations during the event period participated in the program.
izeltlabuak.hu contributes to the event series year after year. We also participated in 2018 and handed over the data along with previous observations from 2017 and 2016. Cooperation was suspended from 2019 to 2022 due to lack of time. Our participation has become regular since 2023.

Results
We created a separate subpage for macro moths recorded during the European Moth Nights 2024 period so they can be publicly reviewed.
The organizers expected macro moth imago data, specifically those that were identified to species. In addition, it was a requirement that the observer and identifier's full name be included and, if possible, the collection method should also be provided.
The izeltlabuak.hu European Moth Nights 2024 observation summary page currently contains 1,520 observations, which include macro moths not identified to species and not just imago data.
Due to the conditions, only a smaller subset of this was handed over. From Hungary, we handed over data from 68 locations, 40 users and 292 species, a total of 1,299 observation data to the organizers, which were processed and are available on their website. We also handed over data from 1 location, 1 user and 43 different species recorded in Romania, a total of 46 observation data, which were also recorded.
Rarer species were also observed. Outstanding observations:

Connection to other events
izeltlabuak.hu is closely connected to another similar event. We wrote a summary about the National Moth Week 2024 event in our blog post.
Acknowledgments
Finally, we would like to express our deep gratitude to the event organizers and all participating data recorders, with whom we collaborated to make it possible to share our passion for moths. Special thanks go to Balogh Botond, Balogh Diána and Tóth Balázs who put a lot of work into identifying the observations. We thank everyone who participated in the European Moth Nights 2024 event and helped to get to know the world of moths!
