Note about izeltlabuak.hu (arthropods)

The izeltlabuak.hu website primarily focuses on arthropods found in Hungary. This entry also deals with Hungarian fauna.

Overview​

In Hungary, the list of protected animal species is contained in Annex 2 of Decree 13/2001 (V. 9.) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection. On the izeltlabuak.hu site, we list the protected arthropods defined in the decree, which can be classified into different protection categories.

The protected species page allows for a taxonomic overview of protected arthropods, where species protection status, nature conservation value and other important information can be found in one place.

Structure​

The protected species page presents protected arthropods in a hierarchical structure. At the top of the page, we find summary information:

  • Number of families: Number of families containing protected species
  • Number of species: Total number of protected species

Higher Taxonomic Categories​

The list is organized by higher taxonomic categories. Each category contains the following information:

  • Scientific name: Scientific name of the taxonomic category
  • Hungarian name: Hungarian name of the category
  • Classification: Taxonomic classification of the category
  • Number of families: Number of families in the given category
  • Number of species: Number of species in the given category

Family Level​

When expanding higher taxonomic categories, we see the families under them. At the family level, the following columns appear:

  • Scientific name: Scientific name of the family
  • Hungarian name: Hungarian name of the family
  • Number of species: Number of protected species in the given family

Species Level​

When expanding families, we see the protected species under them. At the species level, we find detailed information:

  • Scientific name: Scientific name of the species
  • Author: Author of the species description
  • Hungarian name: Hungarian name of the species. The Hungarian name is not the Hungarian name defined in the decree, but the current Hungarian name of the species found on izeltlabuak.hu.
  • Protected: Indicates whether the species is protected
  • Strictly protected: Indicates whether the species is strictly protected
  • Species of Community Interest: Indicates whether the species is of Community interest
  • Priority Species of Community Interest: Indicates whether the species is a priority species of Community interest
  • Nature conservation value: Nature conservation value of the species
