OVERVIEW
The izeltlabuak.hu website primarily focuses on arthropods found in Hungary. This entry also deals with Hungarian fauna.
Welcome to the izeltlabuak.hu documentation page! This page contains all the information needed to use the izeltlabuak.hu community education platform.

What is izeltlabuak.hu?
izeltlabuak.hu is a community education platform whose main goal is to support education and data sharing related to arthropods. The platform operates as a community space where nature enthusiasts, nature photographers, and researchers can collaborate in learning about Hungary's arthropod wildlife.
On the website, you can record observation data, which can be identified by collaborating experts. The observation data saved by thousands of contributors serve as valuable information sources for scientific work. By recording your observations, you too are conducting scientific work.
The data saved in this way are publicly available to everyone along with all other available educational materials. The services provided by the site are completely free.

Education
Educational materials and learning opportunities
The platform offers numerous educational materials, including presentations of species found in Hungary, distribution areas, and phenological data, overview of protected species.
Interactive learning
By recording your observations and through expert identifications, you can become an active participant in the scientific process. The observations saved by thousands of contributors are publicly available to everyone.
Visual learning materials
Through hundreds of thousands of images and observation data, you can learn about species through photos and study morphological characteristics.
Community collaboration
With the active participation of over 5,700 users, the platform provides community learning where you can help each other in learning about species.

Educational articles
The platform offers educational articles through which you can learn about species and study morphological characteristics.
- Poloskák a lakásban
- Tévhírek a csókos poloskáról
- A bencepoloska és az ázsiai márványospoloska összehasonlítása
- Határozási segítség a lovagbodobácsok elkülönítéséhez
- Határozási segítség a papmacskákhoz
Nature Conservation
The platform plays a significant role in supporting nature conservation. Through community data collection - citizen science and scientifically quality observations, it provides valuable information for monitoring protected species and tracking biodiversity changes. Voluntary data collection increases environmental awareness and supports nature conservation.
Protection of endangered species
Observation points of endangered species are not displayed with precise coordinates for their protection; instead, they are marked on the map with a 10x10 km grid. The data are available for scientific and conservation research.
International data sharing
Since July 2024, it collaborates with the GBIF organization. The observations are available on the GBIF platform for scientific work and conservation decision-making.
Cooperation with governmental and international organizations
The data serve as a foundation for numerous organizations:
- Ministry of Agriculture - for habitat protection directive country reports
- WWF - MERLIN and Restore 4 MDD LIFE projects
- IUCN - for European Red Listing preparation

Scientific Use
The platform provides scientifically quality identifications and reliable information with expert verification. The data play a crucial role in numerous scientific works and publications.
Scientific publications
The platform's data play a role in scientific and educational publications, including scientific publications, projects, books, and events.

Getting Started
For new users
To start using the platform, you first need to register. After creating your account, you can enter your basic data and settings.
The central element of using the platform is recording observations. As a first step, you upload a photo of the arthropod you observed, and you can add basic data, location, and time. Quality photos and accurate data increase the success of identification.
You can review and manage your recorded observations on the user observations page. Here you can edit the data, track the status of identifications, and view the observed animals grouped by taxonomic categories.
Experts provide identifications for your observations. You can see notifications about identifications in the header.
Studying Hungarian arthropod species helps you learn more deeply about Hungary's arthropod wildlife.

For researchers and data users
The platform provides data download in various formats. On the GBIF interface, you can perform custom queries, which come with a DOI number. This is particularly important for scientific work where specific datasets are needed.
When using the data in scientific work, it's important to understand the legal framework and licensing. The platform's data play a role in numerous scientific publications and research, where proper citation and licensing are essential.
Through GBIF data sharing, the platform's data are also available internationally, which supports scientific publication creation and global biodiversity research.
